The Cyclone has had its share of scares throughout history, too. It was condemned in the 1970s and threatened with demolition after the NYC Aquarium next door planned to expand. Thankfully, though, it rightfully earned its National Landmark status and today is owned by the Parks Department. That's what the green maple leaf flags on top of the lift hill signify. Well, the Parks Dept. owns the land. Astroland owns and operates the coaster.
