This
is the view you get from the swinging car of the Wonder Wheel
when you're on your way back down. It used to be a lot more
interesting, though. That vacant lot in the center-right used
to be home to the Jumbo Jet, a great Schwarzkopf Jetstar coaster.
Sadly, it is no more.
In
the distance, just off to the left, you can see the half-rebuilt
Parachute Jump tower, and to its right the new Keyspan Park.
Between the two stood the old Thunderbolt roller coaster,
demolished in 2000 so that Rudy's ballpark wouldn't have to
see such an "eyesore" nearby. As much as the ballpark
is helping bring people back to Coney Island, I wonder why
a compromise or restoration idea couldn't have been found.
