Ok, this is the pinnacle of the comics as far as I'm concerned. With
the exception of the DNC stuff I did a little while later, this probably
is the high-water mark here. All the elements are in place -- decent
Photoshop, bizarre pop culture melding, obscure literary references,
and a "NEXT WEEK!" punchline. The only thing it doesn't
have is a comedy beat panel, but I will forgive that transgression.
"Ionesco
For Kids!" was featured on a few collegiate English department
websites and treated with equal parts amusement and befuddlement,
and that's the way it should be, dammit. The joke itself came about
totally due of a random offside comment I'd made to someone -- "Oh
yeah, I've got some strips coming up soon, like, uh, the works of
Eugene Ionesco as performed by hand puppets." And right as I
said it I realized I now had to do it. And I done dood it right.
