Lisa
Ling really did say that she thought her Old Navy commercials were
"empowering" and all that. Honest to God. Listen, Lisa,
sometimes an ad for drawstrings is just an ad for drawstrings. I'm
sure that Carrie Donovan and the cast of The Jeffersons were right
with you in thinking their work selling performance fleece pullovers
was the pinnacle of grassroots activism. I'm just sorry Morgan Fairchild
didn't win the Nobel Peace Prize that year, but it was, like, an honor
just to be considered, y'know?
On
the other hand, finding the picture of the pasty white male CEO (yep,
that really was the CEO of the Gap, which owns Old Navy) was quite
empowering indeed.
