Ah,
poor Rick Pitino. I liked him in his collegiate coaching days (even
have his autograph somewhere) but he clearly let his frustration get
the best of him in 2000.
I
mean, you can almost forgive the man for his little outburst. Pitino
came in as Head Coach of the Celtics after their dismal 15-67 season
(yeah, you read right) and threw himself into trying desperately to
turn the team around. He signed Paul Pierce, who immediately became
a star, but it just wasn't enough. So in 2000, after yet another loss,
he started yelling at the post-game press conference about how Boston's
negativity "sucked" and how "Larry Bird's not coming
through that door" and stuff.
Funny
how he accused Boston of living in the past, when he came to this
team with the express intention of restoring its former glory.
I
like the sequence of pictures I used for Pitino's little rant. He
gets progressively angrier and angrier in keeping with the dialogue,
and I like that. Just don't ask how he suddenly appears on the court,
or why his ties keep changing. Then again, I bet you didn't catch
that until I mentioned it. So sorry.
Say,
did you ever notice how the E and the x in the "FedEx" logo
make an arrow?
Postscript:
Rick Pitino resigned as head coach of the Celtics in January 2001.
With Jim O'Brien at the helm, the team broke .500 in the 2001-2002
season with 49 wins and 33 losses. Sucks to your negativity, Ricky-boy.
