Wow.
Now this one is just way too verbose, and with a small version
of the comic font I used ("Annifont", usually 12-point)
to boot. I really apologize if it's hard to read. However, this strip
does have a few highlights, lack of readability notwithstanding:
1.
Elian Gonzalez as a Pokemon puppeteer. Come on. You gotta admit that's
some high-concept comedy juice right there.
2.
The Eisner quote for the punchline. Yeah, there was serious bad blood
between the two Mikeys before Ovitz left Disney. And Eisner's cheery
expression makes it even funnier.
3.
The mockup People magazine cover. That was a lot of fun to make, from
the headline to the exuberant teaser copy. I got to mockup magazine
covers twice in this run, and they both rank among my favorite creative
memories of the site. (And
that's me in the upper-right corner, being all cranky and stuff. The
picture was taken at Matt Sparby's 1999-2000 New Year's Party and
although you can't see it, I have a candle on my head.)
I'm
still not sure why I gave Mike Ovitz rounded rectangular dialogue
boxes, though they act as nice vertical separators for the panels.
